"It is hard to believe all this wasteland used to be a forest. Owrus lived here, but they are all gone. A great deal of wisdom disappeared with them."
(Father's Journal)

Withered Lands used to be part of the great forests of Pirta[1] but has, since the Catastrophe, slowly dried and withered into the wasteland it is now. The island lies in the far east of the Uncharted Seas. To the west lies the remainder of the lush Pirta jungle, the Great Forest island.

Hero Approaches Whithered Lands

Description[]

Map-universal-OH

Withered Lands is a large island, covered in rocks and sand. Dried bushes and cacti are the only vegetation present. There are many caves with entrances and exits that can be tough to navigate. A large Direfolk camp is erected at the north-side of the island.

Only a single tree still exists, which is located inside Rigger's Home on the eastern corner of the island. The house of Rigger and Boldwing is a two story house on a cliff in the very east of the area. Even though Rigger lives alone, it still features two travel beds.

History[]

Long before now, the Pirta continent is covered in lush forests and jungles with a very humid climate. The Owrus live under the protection of Neyto, whose Emblem of Earth has been kept on top of the Cocoon, an ancient Beacon in Pirta. It's removal during the time of Grand Regent Archimedes leads to events that cause the Catastrophe, which destroys the realms of Gaia substiantially. The rising sea levels divide the lands and reduce it to smaller islands, many of which dry out and die, including what is now Withered Lands.

While many Owru migrate to the Great Forest, Rigger and Boldwing remain on Withered Lands. After Boldwing dies in a war, it is down to Rigger to care for the last tree standing on the island. Then, Rigger is being captured by the Direfolk and sends a bottled message, in hopes to be rescued.

The Kid arrives on Withered Lands in the search for the Emblem of Earth. He ventures into the island and frees Rigger from his prison in the Direfolk camp. Rigger thanks the Kid but hurries of in haste.[2] They meet again at Rigger's Home, where the Kid is gifted the Force Spell by the Owru. He speaks about the history of the Owru and the whereabouts of the Emblem of Earth and sends the Kid to the Great Forest island.

Curious about the Kid's progress, Rigger also leaves Withered Lands and remains in the Great Forest, together with other Owrus.

The Kid can return to Withered Lands to find more treasures afterwards.
