The Owru are long-lived, humanoid, bird-like people. They inhabit the lush forests of Pirta, which lies in the east of the habitable area of Gaia. Their largest settlement is L'Istrait Town.[1] After the Catastrophe their natural habitat slowly erodes and in Monster of Uncharted Seas, the race faces extinction with only a few members left. Owru appear only in Knights of the Lost Realm and Monster of Uncharted Seas, but their existence is referenced in Chronos Dungeon.

Appearance[]

Owru are very similar to Arcadians in their general body structure. Their bodies are larger than that of humans and are covered with feathers, except for their faces, feet and hands. They typically wear no to very little clothing, such as skirts or armor. They have large, owl-like eyes and beaks. They have bird-like, three limbed feet with two toes towards the front and one to the back, each with a large claw.

There is a range of colors of earthy colors to be found for their feathers and leather-like skin, such as variuos browns, black, red, white and grey. All encountered members of the Eye clan have both, black feathers and black skin.

Design Differences[]

There are very little design differences between the two main games. Since Oceanhorn 2 uses a different engine, however, the Owru design was able to have greater detail in that game: The lower arms have bigger feathers and there are many individual feathers protruding around their neck and hip area. They have more realistic bird features, e.g. how their owl skulls attach to their torso.

Ageing[]

Owru have a longer life-span than humans, as demonstrated by Rigger and his brother Boldwing.[2]

Origins[]

According ot Owru legends, the first Owru were born inside the Cocoon. After their birth, Neyto sorted the Owru into two castes, the warriors and the scholars,[3] the Eye clan and the Talon clan respectively,[4] and the Owru lived in peace.

History[]

For a long time the Owru are regarded as 'monsters' by the Arcadians and treated as such.[5] Eventually, when the Wise Men begin to rule over Arcadia, the three main races of Gaia, including the Owrus, make peace and an alliance between them is formed.[5]

During the last Direfolk War, the Owrus face great difficulties. When Archimedes offers them protection in exchange for their Emblem of Earth,[6] the Talon clan overrules the opinion of the Eye clan and the Emblem is collected by Theo, an arcadian warlock. He is being hindered by members of the Eye clan but can ultimately remove the Emblem. Irontalon, from the Talon clan, is chosen as ambassador and protector of the Emblem and he travels to the White City.

The Eye clan fights very hard and suffers many losses as Archimedes's promises of protection fell flat. Chief particularly protects the Great Forest from being burned down by the Direfolk. Since then, the Eye and Talon clan live in both political and religious turmoil.

The removal of the Emblem allows Chora Tuyk, the Firebird, to nest up on the top of the Cocoon. It terrorises the Eye clan Owru living in the surrounding jungle and many of them flee, despite their differences, into the Talon settlement L'Istrait Town.

Twenty years after studying the Emblems of Creation, Archimedes orders his Knights to return them to their Beacons. Hero, Trin and Gen are accompanying Ambassador Irontalon back to Pirta. The Eye clan abducts Irontalon, but the Knights are able to rescue him without delay. They defeat Chief and his Eye clan bandits and proceed to the Cocoon. After turning on the Beacon's internal power system, the Knights defeat the Firebird on top of the Beacon and Ambassador Irontalon is able to return the Emblem of Earth to where it belongs.

The Talon and the Eye clan are reunited under their Goddess Neyto[7] and promise their support to the Arcadians in the wake of the Dark Army's looming attack.

Rigger and two Owrus

Rigger meeting the only other two Owru encountered (OH1).

During the Catastrophe, the Cocoon is completely destroyed. Pirta and its forests face dire environmental consequences. Where once was lush jungle, with time, a desert formed: the Withered Lands. The Owru are forced to retreat into the Great Forest, inside which the Temple Shrine holding the Emblem of Earth survives for the next thousand years. Not many Owru remain at the time of OH1, and Rigger even believes to be the last,[8] as he is living alone on the outskirts of Withered Lands.

After the Kid appears to defeat Turmos and collect the Sacred Emblem, Rigger appears. He is joined by the other remaining Owru of the Great Forest and together they start a new page in the history of Owrus.[9]
