Mary was Blackhat's romantic partner until her death and the mother of the Kid. She was born on Sky Island and as a young woman she was chosen to represent Goddess Sol and given the Emblem of Sun, in form of a necklace.^[1] When a mad scientist demands the Emblem, she decides to jump off the floating landmass.^[2] Miraculously she survives the fall but loses her memory.^[3] She meets Blackhat, with whom she falls in love with and gives birth to the Kid. She is killed by Oceanhorn on Home Island, where the family sought shelter from a storm.^[4]

Appearance[]

Mary is a young Arcadian woman with shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes. She wears a blue shirt with golden decorations, a red-pink skirts that covers her knees and a dark red wide belt or sash around her belly and hips, featuring golden trims and the symbol of Arcadia on it.

She wears leather strap sandals and two golden bracelets on her right wrist. Around her neck is the large necklace, the Emblem of Sun.

Synopsis[]

Twenty years before the events of Oceanhorn, Mary is being given the Emblem of Sun as part of the sky people's annual tradition to represent Sol, the goddess of light. At that time, a scholar who studied the Arcadian code goes mad and demands the emblem in order to bring the island back to the ground. While the other sky people agree, Mary is not willing to hand it over and instead jumps off the island with it. She survives the fall but loses her memory, except for the certainty that she had fallen from the sky and a sense of longing when looking up at Sky Island.^[3]

After some time, she meets Blackhat and falls in love with him. They start a family and she gives birth to the Kid.

One night the family find shelter from a storm inside a cave on Home Island. Mary goes outside for a just moment but that is the moment when Oceanhorn, chasing the father at the time, appears on the island. It kills Mary, leaving father and son alone behind.

They stay and settle on Home Island. Mary's grave is located on a small hill to the north, overseeing the endless ocean of the Uncharted Seas.
