Cepedes are natural inhabitants of Gaia and appear in all games of the Oceanhorn franchise. They are tougher enemies and are less frequent than smaller ones.

General[]

Cepedes are generally arthropods, resembling centipedes with their elongated bodies and many legs. They have, however, a few design differences between the games.

  • OH1 - The cepede is made of several smaller segments that are all individual critters. The cepede can separate into shorter cepedes or even individual segments. That's why each segment as four legs, two on each side.
  • OH2 - The cepede received a design update to resemble a real centipede more closely, with a red head with four large mandibles, an inseperable body and only two legs on each segment. They have a large, red rear end which is their only weak spot.
  • CD - The only cepede appearing is a mix between the previous two: It looks closer to the OH1 cepede but cannot separate, and was given the sensitive red tail of the OH2 cepede.

Certain individuals of cepede can grow particularly long.

Battle[]

Cepedes primarily tackle their opponent to deal damage and their shell bodies are very tough. They are generally not the easiest enemy to encounter.

Attack[]

  • OH1 - The foremost segment (and any individual segment critter) will try to tackle the opponent and thus deal damage. Walking into the cepede will also deal damage.
  • OH2 - If the cepede notices an opponent, it will rush towards and tackle them. They are quite fast and running is not always going to ensure escape, depending on the terrain. They stop the pursuit only due to terrain difficulties or if the opponent is outside their territory. Exception: Queen Long will run strictly on her path without actively tackling Hero.

Defense[]

  • OH1 - The shells of the segments are tough and deal easily damage, but they can be defeated using several careful sword attacks or long-ranged attacks, for example throwing a bomb or any throwable item collected from the ground.
  • OH2 - These cepedes are impervious to attacks, except for their red glowing tail. When hit a couple of times with the sword, it means the end of the cepede. Since cepedes first tackle and then run fast, it can be diffifult to hit the tail to begin with. However, using the Grappling Hook to pull Hero towards the cepede is a good strategy to end the encounter fast.

Cepede Boss Fight in Chronos Dungeon[]

Defeating King Cepede

King Cepede is the final and main boss of World I of the Chronos Dungeon.

Attack
The cepede boss runs very quickly along a random path, dealing damage when hitting its opponent if they were unable to stay clear. If it is being hit on its tail, it will increase speed for a short amount of time and it is better to stay as far away as possible.

Defense
This cepede boss's weak spot is its tail. As it runs on a random path it can be difficult to hit the rear at the right time, though. Any range attack will work.

Tarock Card Description[]

Tarock-cepede

"Mighty Centipede - Cepdes are creatures inhabiting the most remote corners of Gaia and are primarily found in caves and deserts. They can grow to several meters in length, and their body is divided into multiple segments. Their thick, steel-like skin is impenetrable by most weapons. With jaws strong enough to crush rock, they represent a considerable challenge to most adventurers. The tail is their only known weak point - but every explorer who met one knows that hitting the tail enrages it further and makes it an even scarier hurdle to overcome."
