The Ancient Flute (called mysterious flute and flute in-game) is a wooden flute used by the pilots of the Living Fortresses, in order to control the machines. Each Living Fortress is controlled by its own flute and recognizable melody, of which only the one for Oceanhorn is known. Oceanhorn's flute melody is the leifmotif of the franchise and appears prominently in the main theme of the open world in Knights of the Lost Realm.

Description[]

The Ancient Flute looks like an ordinary brown wooden flute with two (OH) or four (OH2) holes in it and the Emblem of Creation engraved near its embouchure.

History[]

Pre-Catastrophe[]

Trin-Flute

The flute is created alongside the Living Fortresses by Archimedes. It appears for the first time in Trin's hands when the Fortresses are presented to the public.

When the Dark Army passes Submeria and attacks the Great Lagoon, Trinity does not hesitate to use the flute to call for Oceanhorn.

Being in Trin's possession, the flute survives the Catastrophe and is handed from generation to generation of her descendants.

Post-Catastrophe[]

The flute is old and battered,[1] but it still exists a thousand years after the Catastrophe. It is now in the hands of Blackhat, father of the Kid. He uses the flute to subdue Oceanhorn when it comes for him and leads it to the Arcadia Ruins, where he can contain it until his son arrives.

The flute was left just by the entrance to the ruins underground and is collected by the Kid. During his fight with Oceanhorn, he is able to take advantage of a crucial moment: Shadow Mesmeroth controlling the Dark Apostle rather than the Living Fortress. As he blows the control melody, Oceanhorn listens to his commands and destroys the Dark Apostle, Shadow Mesmeroth and itself in a giant explosion.

Tarock Card Description[]

Tarock-flute

"Instrument of Control - A musical instrument only in appearance, the Flute is a device to summon and control the Living Fortresses, each through a specific melody. Vicks, Bauer, and Trin all have their own Flute, a powerful artifact that, for obvious reasons, should never end in the wrong hands. As time will tell, Trin's Flute will be relevant for centuries to come.
